BOEC is a registered operator for the Award in Australia.
Schools and organisations have the opportunity to use the resources of the the Centre to assist their students to complete the Expedition Section of the Award. That is a 2 day expedition at the Bronze level, 3 days at the Silver level and 4 days at the Gold level. |
Some background to the Award
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is run in over seventy countries around the world as well as in every State and Territory of Australia. It is a "leadership in action" program, available to all young people aged between fourteen and twenty-five, providing them with the opportunity to achieve personal excellence and build self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance, self-motivation and respect for others via their involvement in service, skill, physical recreation and expedition activities.
The Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of the Award each demand a different level of commitment and effort. To achieve and Award, a participant is required to fulfil the basic requirements for each of the four sections. On fulfilling these requirements participants receive a certificate and badge as recognition for their efforts.
Through its aims and philosophy, the Award provides the opportunity for students to exhibit all of the basic attributes set out by the Victorian Department of Education, Employment and Training. Because of its flexibility and its structure, it can also be incorporated into any given curriculum to assist in the understanding, appreciation and application of elements of the Key Learning Areas.
The four sections of the Award also provide the opportunity to develop, enhance and put into practice all of the Key Competencies - hence the Award's important role in the Victorian State Government's Youth Development Program.
