This page supports an action research project as part of Steve McMurtrie's (Principal of BOEC)" Masters in School Leadership" course at Monash University. Bogong Outdoor Education Centre is a state government residential school providing alpine experiences for sustainable futures. Our vision is to "empower students to develop values, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours for sustainable living.
"When we say something is sustainable we simply mean that it can go on indefinitely. A human society is one that functions so well it can continue indefinitely. There is no toxic pollution build-up, resources are used and reused so there's no waste, and natural ecosystems are carefully managed so they can provide an endless supply of air, water and food. Similarly, social, political and economic systems are organised responsibly to allow the society to thrive with minimal impact on the planet and to leave plenty of resources for the generation that follow."
("Ecologic - Creating a Sustainable Future" McEwen p1-2)
Although still in its early stages, this project will be investigating "How can a residential setting bring about long term behavioural change in students in terms of sustainable living?".
Please visit the "Bulletin Board" which aims to generate a space for "active conversations". I look forward to your responses, information and professional interactions.
