Environmental Studies

• Bogong After-Dark (1.5 hours)
• Bogong's Backyard (3 hours)

These sessions look at the ecology of the area and incorporate classroom presentations and student practical work on the land use issues, history, flora, fauna, climate, water and geology associated with the Alpine environment.

Bogong After-Dark (evening session)
Discover the nightlife of Bogong Village by moonlight and recline in the Cattlemans Hut for a relaxing powerpoint slide presentation or a lively environmental auction involving the Bogong High Plains user groups.

Bogong's Backyard (half day session)
A session where students explore the local Bogong area. Students have the opportunity to immerse their senses through a variety of activities which may involve:

  • crawling through a wombat hole
  • a blindfolded sensory trail experience
  • a chance to hug a tree and ID a tree
  • exploring predator/prey relationships
  • discovering what 'critters' live in Lake Guy
  • searching for the longest blue gum leaf
  • learning about the amazing adaptions of alpine plants and animals
